بدون تردید بزرگ‌ترین شاعر ایرانی و شاید اگر متهم نشویم به ملی‌گرایی افراطی، بزرگ‌ترین شاعر جهان حضرت خواجه حافظ شیرازی است. اشعار حافظ قرن‌هاست که زینت‌بخش محافل ایرانی و ایرانی است و تمام پارسی‌زبانان در سراسر جهان از آن لذت می‌برند.

حافظ از تاثیرگذارترین شخصیت‌های تاریخ ایران و شاید بزرگ‌ترین نغمه‌سرای مشرق‌زمین است. این بزرگی تا بدان‌جاست که گوته شاعر بزرگ آلمانی خود را شاگرد معنوی وی می‌داند و به این شاگردی افتخار می‌ورزد.

حافظ، ستون ادبیات پارسی
بدون تعصب باید حافظ را در کنار سعدی، دو ستون ادبیات پارسی قلمداد کنیم. اولی در نظم و دومی در نثر، از بزرگ‌ترین مفاخر ایران در تمام تاریخ هستند.
حافظ تمام عمر خود را در شیراز سپری کرد و در سال ۷۹۲ هجری (۱۳۹۰ میلادی) زندگی را بدرود گفت. او علاقه بسیاری به شیراز داشت و هرگز مایل نبود از این شهر خارج شود. به گونه‌ای که در زندگینامه وی آمده است که در مقابل دعوت‌های پی‌درپی حکام شهرهای دیگر برای مهاجرت یا مسافرت به آن مناطق، مقاومت می‌کرد.
این علاقه او به شیراز باعث شد تا صدها بیت بی نظیر و سرشار از احساس که لطافت هوا و گوارایی آب شیراز را برای ما تداعی می‌کند، در بیت به بیت اشعار حافظ تجلی یابد. درواقع بخشی از زیبایی اشعار حافظ به همین دلیل است که وی از طبیعت و آب‌و‌هوای بی‌نظیر شیراز الهام گرفته است.
